GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg defeated Franklin & Marshall 84-71 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Tuesday evening. The Diplomats suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 3-1, 0-1 CC while the Bullets improved to 2-4, 1-0 CC.
Tied at 6-6 three minutes into the game, Gettysburg scored five straight and took the lead for good. F&M made it a two-point game, 15-13, but Gettysburg went on an 11-5 run and took a 26-18 lead midway through the half. An Ignas Slyka triple at 6:26, brought F&M within a point, 30-29, and the Bullets closed out the half by outscoring the Diplomats 10-6 to take a 40-34 lead into the break.
Gettysburg quickly went up 11, 52-41, in the second and the Diplomats answered with a 14-4 run over the next six minutes to come within a point, 56-55, with 7:56 left to play. F&M stayed within striking distance and only trailed four, 65-61, before the Bullets went on a 10-2 spurt to put the game out of reach.
Justin Kupa finished with 18 points, hitting 6-for-12 from the floor, while Matt Redhead and Ignas Slyka both ended with 13 points. J.C. McGrath ended with a double-double, pulling down 11 boards to go along with 10 points.
Gettysburg held a 56%-40% edge in shooting percentage, while the Diplomats had the advantage on the boards at 43-30.
F&M returns to action on Sunday when the Diplomats travel to York for a 3:00 p.m. game.
