ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg erased an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat No. 22 Franklin & Marshall 82-80 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Tuesday evening. The Diplomats fell to 11-2, 5-1 CC while the Mules improved to 5-7, 3-3 CC.
F&M took an early 11-4 lead five minutes into the game and three points from Brandon Federici at 12:52 made it 17-6. The Diplomats took their largest lead of the game, 39-21, with 6:30 left in the first. The Mules came within 11, 41-30, at 2:42 and F&M took a 45-34 lead into the break.
Muhlenberg went on a 12-5 run to open the second and came within four, 50-46, at 15:33. The Diplomats responded with nine straight to go up 59-46, before the Mules slowly started to chip away. Muhlenberg came within five with a little less than 10 minutes to play and made it a one-point game, 66-65, at 8:03. The Mule took their first lead at 4:53 and the teams exchanged the lead down the stretch. Clutch foul shooting by both teams made it close in the final minutes and F&M's final shot as time expired missed the mark.
F&M returns to action on Thursday when the Diplomats travel to Washington to for a 6:00 p.m. game.
