Series History: F&M starts CC action tonight when the Diplomats take on Gettysburg for the 220th time. Gettysburg leads the all-time series 113-106, but the Diplomats lead 35-16 in CC action, including wins in the last two meetings. On Sunday, F&M travels to Lebanon Valley to face the Dutchmen for 143rd meeting with the Diplomats leading 76-66 in the series.
Last Meeting with Gettysburg (Recap): Four players reached double-figure as No.25 Franklin & Marshall knocked off Gettysburg 74-63 in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals last year on Feb. 26.
Cedric Moune finished with a team-high 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and collected five steals to pick up his 11th double-double of the year. Brandon Federici netted 16 and Hunter Eggers shot 5-for-8 for 15 points. Matthew Tate added 14 for the Diplomats, and Shawn Hines grabbed six boards.
F&M outshot Gettysburg 40-38 percent, held a 39-30 edge on the glass. The Diplomats turned 17 offensive rebounds into 25 second-chance points and converted 14 turnovers by the Bullets into 20 points.
Alex Kaslander led Gettysburg with 21; Kevin Gladstone had 17 and Cam Stewart finished with 11.
Last Meeting with LVC (Recap): Joe Meehan scored 23 points, including the final three with 0.7 showing on the clock to deliver Lebanon Valley a 62-59 upset of No. 4 Franklin & Marshall on Nov. 24, 2009.
Trailing 35-27 at the half, F&M chipped away at the deficit over the first 7:45 of the second half. At that point, Steve Tolliver drained a trey that gave the Diplomats their first lead of the night, 44-43.The lead changed hands four more times down the stretch before Meehan tied the game at 59-59 with a free throw with 68 seconds left in regulation.
F&M took two cracks at the basket on the ensuing possession, but could not get either shot to fall. LVC held the ball down to the last second. That was when Meehan dropped in a three for the night's sixth and final lead change. The ensuing, desperation inbound pass never found a Diplomat for a chance to knot it up.
Georgio Milligan gave F&M 15 points on an uncharacteristic 5-of-15 evening. Anthony Brooks added nine points. No other Diplomat contributed more than four points on the night. After getting 33.5 points per night from the bench during the tipoff tournament, the F&M reserves were held to nine on Tuesday.
F&M Last Week: F&M went 2-0 to open the season and win the William Marshall Tip-Off Tournament. The Diplomats took down Lancaster Bible 94-91 in overtime in the opening game, before picking up an easy 91-71 win over York in the championship game.
1,000 Points: With a 20-point performance against Lancaster Bible, junior Brandon Federici became the fastest player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
In the Polls: F&M enters the season ranked 23rd in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. The Diplomats are the only CC team in the top-25 with Swarthmore just outside at 29th.
