LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall remained unbeaten this season with a 68-55 victory over McDaniel Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action. The Diplomats improved to 4-0, 1-0 CC while the Green Terror fell to 2-1, 0-1 CC.
Glenn Robinson picked up career win 874 and passed University of Connecticut coaching legend Jim Calhoun for the eighth spot on the NCAA All-Time Coaching Victory List.
F&M jumped out to an early 8-2 lead five minutes into the game with four points from Brandon Federici. The Green Terror answered with an 8-2 run to come within two, 17-15, at 8:56, but the Diplomats netted eight straight and took a 25-15 lead at 5:55. The teams traded points over the next few minutes, before the Diplomats finished the half with a 6-1 spurt to go into the break with a 34-21 lead.
Federici had 13 points in the opening stanza while Cedric Moune netted six for the Diplomats.
F&M continued its assault in the second with a 7-2 spurt to open the half and took an 18-point lead, 41-23, just a little over two minutes into the final frame. The Diplomats maintained a double-digit advantage and led by as many as 20 points, 54-34, at 9:20. The Green Terror never mounted a substantial run in the second as the Diplomats cruised to the victory.
Federici added 14 in the second and finished with a game-high 24 points. The freshman went 9-for-14 from the floor, 5-for-5 from the line and added three steals and three blocks. Moune picked up 13 points with six rebounds while Jared Wright netted 10 points with five assists. Morgan Lee chipped in nine, Lionel Owona had five and Hunter Eggers added four for the Diplomats.
Tim Stewart and Nic Martin paved the way for the Green Terror with 11 points apiece while Cameron Royster finished with nine.
F&M outshot McDaniel 61-37 percent and held a 23-16 advantage in defensive rebounds.
The Diplomats continue CC action on Tuesday when F&M travels to Johns Hopkins for an 8:00 p.m. game.
