CARLISLE, Pa. – Matt Porter and Jon Salandra combined for 47 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 72-57 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) action in the regular season finale. The win completes the season sweep over the Red Devils as the Diplomats improved to 17-8, 13-5 CC while Dickinson fell to 20-5, 15-3 CC.
The victory secured F&M the second seed in the CC Tournament and a first round bye and will take on Johns Hopkins, who clinched the third seed with a win today and a loss by McDaniel. The game will be played at Dickinson on Friday at 6 p.m. McDaniel and Muhlenberg will face-off in the first round game on Wednesday and the winner will face Dickinson on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
F&M led 8-2 early in the contest and went up 16-8 on a Morgan Lee layup with 6:58 left in the opening half. Dickinson stayed close and came within five, 18-13, but the Diplomats tallied eight straight and went up 26-13 on a Salandra dunk with 1:16 left to the break. Adam Honig kept the Red Devils within striking distance with two triples in the final minute of the first to make it 28-19 at halftime.
The Diplomats increased its lead to 12, 37-25, six minutes into the final half, before Dickinson answered and came within eight 39-31. The Diplomats countered with a 12-2 run and took its largest lead of the game off a Terrel Phelps three that made it 51-33 with 7:49 left to play. Dickinson came within 11, 58-47, but the Diplomats maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the contest to secure the victory.
Porter went 12-for-20 from the floor and pulled down nine boards, while Salandra collected eight rebounds for the Diplomats. Phelps ended with nine, hitting 6-for-6 from the stripe and Cedric Moune grabbed a game-high 14 boards and tallied eight points.
Honig led all scorers with 27, but was the only Red Devil in doubles figures.
F&M outshot Dickinson 48-40 percent and held a commanding 40-25 edge on the glass.
