HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - Franklin & Marshall baseball All-American Jonathan Cole was named to the Coastal Plain League (CPL) All-Star Team and will compete in the league's 2019 All-Star Showdown in Savannah, Ga. at historic Grayson Stadium.
Cole was the only Division III student-athlete to be named a CPL All-Star.
The two-day Showdown will feature six teams consisting of 12 players each. Each game of the Showdown will be three complete innings in length with tie-breaker rules for any games that remain tied following the third inning of play.
Two pitchers pools will compete in the Showdown: a semifinals arms pool and a championship arms pool. Cole was announced to the championship arms pool as part of the highest vote-getters from the initial All-Star ballots voted on by coaches, broadcasters and team media reps.
More information about the structure of the 2019 CPL Showdown can be found here.
Cole competed this summer for the Fayetteville Swampdogs, tossing 24 frames and producing a mere 1.88 ERA. He went 2-2 overall through four starts and struck out 22 batters.
The rising senior righty wrapped up a record-breaking 2019 campaign for the Diplomats by being named the program's second All-American. Cole registered the lowest-ever ERA (1.02) among F&M pitchers with at least 50 innings of work and didn't allow an earned run through his last four starts on the season, which spanned 29 innings.
The 2019 Coastal Plain League All-Star Showdown will be televised nationally to over 30 million households, as well as streamed live on MLB.com and the Coastal Plain League's website.
