Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's baseball team saw its game one rally fall short by a 6-4 score before the Diplomats dropped the nightcap by an 8-2 tally against Haverford on Saturday at Caplan Field.

The pair of Centennial Conference (CC) defeats dropped F&M to 8-11-1, 3-3 CC while the Fords improved to 12-12, 5-1 CC.

Game 1: Haverford 6, F&M 4

Haverford jumped out to an early 1-0 edge with two straight hits to start the opening frame and a groundout infield RBI to plate its first run. Diplomat starter Jack Buckley pitched F&M out of several jams in the ensuing innings, but the Fords struck again with three runs on three hits in the sixth to pull in front at 4-0.

F&M staged a rally with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, which was kick-started by a Kelsey Launi two-RBI double to left field that scored Justin Cavegn and Jimmy Whelan. Don DiLoreto wrapped up the scoring with a sacrifice fly out to center that allowed J.J. Freeman to cross home plate.

The Diplomat momentum was short-lived as Haverford struck back with two runs on two hits to extend the advantage to 6-3. Back-to-back walks in the bottom of the ninth breathed life into F&M as Launi eventually scored on a wild pitch, but the Diplomats popped up to short for the final out.

Starter Jack Buckley (3-1) suffered the loss after being charged with four earned in 5 2/3 innings while striking out five. Dylan Livingston (2-2) earned the Fords' win with 6 1/3 innings of work and surrendering just one earned on six hits.

Marano and Whelan each provided 2-for-3 efforts to pace the offense while Marano added a pair of walks.

Game 2: Haverford 8, F&M 2

The nightcap once again saw Haverford jump out to an early lead, this time thanks to an RBI double in the top of the first for the 1-0 advantage. After the Fords tacked on two more runs in the third, the Diplomats answered with a Matthew Kann two-RBI single through the right side that cut the deficit to 3-2.

However, that was all the closer F&M got on the day as Haverford steadily piled onto its lead with a run in the sixth, three runs in the seventh and an insurance score in the ninth.

Starter Jonathan Cole (2-1) was dealt with the loss, allowing four earned on five hits while striking out seven batters. Ryan Giovenco (3-1) picked up the Haverford win after surrendering two earned on six hits in eight innings of work.

Hits were close with the Fords making the most of their opportunities off an 8-7 edge in the category. The Diplomats drew five walks, including two from Launi. Leadoff hitter J.J. Freeman led the way with a 2-for-4 effort and one run scored. Whelan was 2-for-3 and drew a walk on the day.
