Schedule Changes: Last week's winter storm has forced several changes to the Diplomats' schedule, most recently with Tuesday's game against Salisbury now being played on the road.
Series History: F&M and Salisbury have met on only one other occasion with the Diplomats falling by a 10-0 score in Maryland on March 4 of last season. A more familiar non-conference foe is on the slate for Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Messiah for the 20th all-time meeting. The Diplomats hold a 5-2 record on the road against the Falcons and have won five of the last six overall meetings.
Against Washington, F&M enters with a 39-21 all-time record, dating back to the 1960 season. The series is closer down in Chestertown with the Diplomats holding a slight 14-10 edge, including three wins in the last four games.
A Look at Salisbury: The Sea Gulls heads into the week with a 10-7 overall record and three losses in their previous four games. Salisbury is hitting at a .274 clip at the plate but its pitching staff has been stellar with a 3.25 ERA on the year. Colby Dean (.378 batting average) and Justin Meekins (.339 batting average) lead the way at the plate.
A Look at Messiah: The Falcons enter the week with a 4-8 mark and are winless in their last six contests. Messiah owns a .246 team batting average while its pitching staff has combined for a 3.95 ERA. Austin Mellinger leads the offense with a .371 batting average and 13 total hits.
A Look at Washington: The Shoremen have been red hot of late and enter the week with a 15-3 overall record and a six-game winning streak. Washington has accumulated a .305 batting average, but has been carried by its pitching staff who holds a mere 2.64 ERA. Starter P.J. Mikulus leads the rotation with a 4-0 record, to go along with a 1.32 ERA through 34 total innings.
Spring Break Recap: F&M went 4-6 during its Florida Spring Break trip and enters the week with a 5-7-1 record. The Diplomats started strong with three wins in their opening four games, including a doubleheader sweep against Ripon on Monday by scores of 4-2 and 16-8.
Four of the Diplomats' six losses were decided by two runs or less, including an 11-10 setback against Westfield St. on Tuesday that required 15 innings to be decided.
Milestones to Watch: Senior ace Mike Androconis has accumulated 14 wins in his career, a mark that is good for ninth-best all-time and places him just six shy of the program record (20) held by Ted Serro '06.
Androconis' three complete-game shutouts are tied for second, behind only Serro in first with five, while his 155 strikeouts are fifth all-time. With his 30 career starts, he also is closing in on the program record of 33 held by Alex Guerra '15.
Among the CC Leaders: Kengo Kawahara places 10th in the CC with 12 RBIs, followed closely by Dan Marano with 11. Marano's .408 average ranks him seventh, while J.J. Freeman's 13 runs scored are fourth among Conference batters.
Starting pitcher Jack Buckley is off to a torrid start and now holds the CC's second-lowest ERA at 0.92 through 17 2/3 innings with a pair of complete games. Jonathan Cole is ninth with 21 strikeouts while Buckley ranks 10th with 20.
- Matthew Kann – 6 Games
100 For Marano: With a 2-for-4 effort against No. 15 Southern Maine on March 18, Dan Marano reached the 100-hit milestone for his career.
Closing Time: Reliever Andrew Mascis tossed three shutout frames to record his 16th career save, taking over sole possession of the Centennial Conference's (CC) record in F&M's 5-1 win over York on March 6. His save moved him past Haverford's Charlie Carluccio who set the career mark in 2011.
CC Preseason Poll: F&M was picked to finish third in the CC Preseason Poll. Defending-Champion Johns Hopkins earned the top spot with 80 points and eight first-place votes, followed by Haverford (70 points, 2 first-place votes), F&M (55 points), Ursinus (54 points) and Swarthmore (50 points).
