LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's baseball team dropped a 13-2 contest against Washington College on Thursday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium, home of the Lancaster Barnstormers, in Centennial Conference (CC) competition.
The Diplomats fell to 14-17, 5-7 CC while the Shoremen improved to 21-8-1, 5-5 CC.
Washington jumped in front early and never looked back, tallying four runs off two hits and a pair of errors in the top of the second. F&M responded with a Tyler Daley RBI single to left field in the bottom of the frame to make it 4-1, but the Shoremen tacked an additional two runs on the board off a pair of RBI singles in the third to go ahead 6-1.
David Iacobucci led off with a solo homer to right field in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to four. However, that was all the closer the Diplomats would get as Washington followed with a run in the fourth, three in fifth and three in the seventh to close out the contest.
Eight pitchers made an appearance for F&M, beginning with starter Eric Dyke, who was dealt the loss after allowing three earned off one hit and six walks in 1 1/3 innings. Brett Poniros tossed a scoreless eighth frame for his first collegiate appearance. Washington starter Billy Griffin (4-0) surrendered two earned off six hits in five innings of work to pick up the win.
F&M returns to the field on Saturday, traveling to Dickinson for a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m.
