LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Andrew Mascis was named to the D3Baseball.com 2015 All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, announced Monday. The honor is the freshman reliever's second offseason award, after garnering All-Centennial Conference (CC) First Team accolades earlier in the month.
Mascis (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / St. Joseph Regional) was the team's lights out closer in just his first year on the mound for the Diplomats, breaking the program's single-season record with nine saves, which was also the most by a freshman in CC history and led the conference.
The righty reliever accumulated a 0.48 ERA through 18.2 innings, good for the fifth-lowest in F&M single-season history. All but one of Mascis' saves came in conference play, including a scoreless ninth against Haverford in the CC Playoffs on May 2, sending F&M to the conference championship. He also tossed a shutout ninth frame in a 4-1 upset of No. 2 Frostburg St. on May 8.
Climbing as high as No. 7 in the Mid-Atlantic regional rankings, the Diplomats captured wins in their first two CC Tournament games to advance to their first final since 2013, falling short to Johns Hopkins on championship Sunday. F&M finished the season with a 28-13, 13-5 CC mark, good for its highest win total since 2006 and the fourth-most in program history.
