Haverford Defeats F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford broke open a close game with 14 runs over the final three innings to defeat Franklin & Marshall 17-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Friday at Caplan Field. The Diplomats fall to 16-19, 5-9 CC with the setback, while the Fords have now won four straight and move to 17-16, 9-5 CC.

The Fords led 3-0 at the conclusion of the top half of the third, but the Diplomats answered with runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to knot the contest at 3-3.

Alex Vescera got F&M on the board in the third with a triple to the gap in left center that scored Connor Devlin from second. Will Benenson opened the fourth frame with a single to the left side of the infield, and later scored on a Brandon Theriault RBI groundout to pull the Diplomats within 3-2.

J.T. Triantos kept the momentum going for the Diplomats in the sixth, leading off with a single down the right field line, before stealing both second and third base to put a runner on third with none away. Benenson then evened things up at 3-3 with a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Triantos to tag up from third with the tying score.

The momentum shifted into the favor of Haverford in the seventh, however, as the Fords tallied six runs in the frame, before tacking on eight additional scores in the ninth to break things open. The Fords notched 12 of their 22 hits in the final three frames to extend their advantage and secure the win.
