F&M Falls to Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall dropped a 9-5 decision to Lebanon Valley in non-conference baseball action on Sunday. The Diplomats fall to 16-17 with the loss, while the Dutchmen move to 19-15.

F&M opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead on a pair of infield RBI groundouts. Will Benenson knocked in J.T. Triantos from third for the first run, while Kevin Shields sent a grounder to the right side of the infield that plated Brandon Theriault one batter later.

The Dutchmen bounced back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of their own to take a 4-2 advantage.

Joe Gallitto and Theriault evened things back up for F&M with solo home runs in back-to-back frames in the second and third, respectively. Gallitto sent a one-out blast over the wall in left field in the second, while Theriault led off the third with a shot to left to deadlock the score at 4-4.

Aaron Mills provided an answer for LVC with a leadoff solo round-tripper of his own in the bottom of the third to put the Dutchmen back on top by one, 5-4.

The Diplomats once again fought back from a deficit to re-tie the score in the fifth, as Benenson registered his second RBI on the day with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Triantos.

Knotted at 5-5, LVC responded once more in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs to grab an 8-5 edge. Mills notched an RBI double to left center that broke the tie, before Jordan Higgins and John Hildebrand added RBI's later in the frame.

The Dutchmen added another score in the eighth for the final 9-5 difference.

Theriault went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored, while Gallitto notched a solo home run and was 2-for-4 at the plate. Benenson tallied a team-high two RBIs, and Triantos scored twice and had one hit.
