WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall’s bats were in full effect Saturday, combining for 25 runs in a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader sweep versus McDaniel. The Diplomats (20-13-1, 13-5 CC) won the first game 12-10 and picked up their second victory of the day, with a 13-3 win over the Green Terror (15-15, 7-11 CC) in the nightcap.

Shea Moriarty and Jason Anderson led the Diplomats’ high-powered offense. Moriarty produced one run and drove in seven more, including a three-run blast in the first game. Anderson combined for five RBIs and three runs on the day.

F&M found themselves in hole late in the first contest, trailing the Green Terror 7-6 after four innings. The Diplomats responded in the top of fifth, scoring six runs in the frame. Bill Murray got things started with a single to left center and stole second. Two batters later, Russell Tischler plated Murray with a single to left field, tying the game at 7-7. J.T. Triantos brought Tischler home with a single of his own. With two outs and runners on first and second, Murray struck with his three-run blast down the leftfield line. Nick Rolnick knocked in another run, putting the Diplomats up 12-7.

McDaniel added two runs in the sixth and one in seventh, but it was not enough as F&M took a 12-10 win.

Brad Andres picked up the win for F&M. Andres (4-1) struck out three and issued five walks in six innings of work.

Tyler Persun took the loss. Persun (5-4) pitched 4.1 innings, striking out one and walking four.

It did not take the Diplomats long to pick up where they left off in game two. F&M scored five runs in the second frame and four in the third leading the Diplomats to a 13-3 victory.

Anderson led the way knocking in five runs and scoring one. Moriarty completed his day, going 1-for-3, driving in three runs and scoring one. John Dutton got into the action, with a 3-for-5 performance. He recorded one RBI and crossed the plate three times.

Nick Markel twirled a gem, improving to 5-1 on the season. Markel struck out eight, while issuing on two walks in eight innings of work.

F&M returns to action tomorrow, with a non-conference game against Elizabethtown College. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
