LANCASTER, Pa. – Sixteen former Franklin & Marshall student-athletes earned a spot on the Centennial Conference (CC) Silver Anniversary Team for men's and women's swimming, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Stephen Michaels '00, Stephen Miller '00, Stephen Pasquale '03, Mark Woodall '04, J.J. Czaplicki '06, Derek Nowak '08, Val Perfanov '08, Tom Grabiak '10, and Matt Jaffe '10 landed on the men's list, while Jodi Woods '94, Carmen Trombini '98, Krystle Satrum '04, Jenna Walters '07, Kelly Landman '07, Brittany McCabe '09 and Katie Grant '15 earned a spot on the women's team.
The Centennial Silver Anniversary teams are in celebration of the Conference's first 25 years of competition, which began in 1993. During the remainder of July and the first two weeks of August, the CC will honor its member schools' most-distinguished student-athletes in 24 sports.
Must be a graduate of the institution AND one of the following:
- 3-time or 4-time first-team All-Centennial performer (win same event in swimming, track)
- 2-time Centennial Player of the Year
- 1st team All-America AND 2-time first-team All-Centennial performer
- 2-time All-America (1st, 2nd or 3rd team)
Stephen Michaels '00 – Men's Swimming
A two-time captain, Michaels remains in the program's top-10 in four events, including a 200-yard Butterfly time of 1:52.96 that places second. Michaels was an All-American in the 200 Butterfly, earning the distinction in 2000, while being named the CC Outstanding Performer in back-to-back seasons during his junior and senior years. Michaels garnered a spot in the F&M Athletic Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2011.
Stephen Miller '00 – Men's Swimming
Miller was a four-time All-American, earning a pair of accolades in 1998 and 1999 in the 1,650-yard Freestyle and the 400-IM. Winner of the team's George McGinness Award in 2000, Miller holds the F&M program record for the 400-IM with a time of 4:06.51, good for the seventh-fastest mark in the history of the CC. He became a member of the F&M Athletic Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2011.
Stephen Pasquale '03 – Men's Swimming
Pasquale earned three All-CC honors during his time in the pool for the Diplomats. His career-best times of 1:56.14 in the 200-yard Backstroke and 52.96 in the 100-yard Backstroke, remain in the program's all-time top-10.
Mark Woodall '04 – Men's Swimming
Woodall won the 200-yard Backstroke each of his four years at the CC Championship meet, becoming just the fourth swimmer in Conference history, at the time, to perform that feat in an event. He won six events at CC Champs his senior year and holds top-10 times for the program in six events.
J.J. Czaplicki '06 – Men's Swimming
Czaplicki garnered All-America honors at the 2006 NCAA Championships with his finish in the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 20.73 – which was, at the time, a program record. He remains in the top-five of that event in the F&M record book, as well as the 100-yard Freestyle with a career-best mark of 46.50.
Derek Nowak '08 – Men's Swimming
A three-time All-American, Nowak still holds three F&M records in the 500-, 1,000-, and 1,650-yard Freestyle. Each of those marks stand in the CC's all-time top-10, with his 1,000-Free time being the second-fastest in the history of the Conference. He was named the CC Outstanding Performer at the 2007 Championship meet.
Val Perfanov '08 – Men's Swimming
Perfanov holds a pair of top-five times in F&M program history for the 100- and 200-yard Butterfly. At the 2008 CC Championships, Perfanov was a part of four relay teams which captured gold, while adding a silver in the 200-yard Butterfly and bronze in the 100-yard Butterfly.
Tom Grabiak '10 – Men's Swimming
Grabiak is the last F&M male swimmer to earn All-America honors and is the program leader in accolades with six in his career. He holds the CC and F&M record in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:01.66, as well as the F&M record in the 100-yard Breaststroke (55.98) and 200-yard IM (1:51.55). Grabiak was named the CC Outstanding Performer at three Championships and won the 200-Breaststroke all four years at the meet.
Matt Jaffe '10 – Men's Swimming
Jaffe graduated as the F&M record holder in both the 100- (51.36) and 200-yard Backstroke (1:52.43), times which remain in the program's all-time top-five. He won two individual events at his senior season's CC Championship meet, and was part of four relays that claimed gold.
Jodi Woods '94 – Women's Swimming
Woods was a seven-time All-American for the Diplomats and remains the program's record holder in the 200-yard IM (2:08.9). At the 1994 CC Championship meet, Woods was named the Outstanding Performer after placing first in three events.
Carmen Trombini '98 – Women's Swimming
Trombini was a nine-time All-American after earning accolades all four years she was a member of the team. She remains the program record holder in the 100- (1:06.5) and 200-yard Breaststroke (2:24.6) events and was a four-time winner of the CC Outstanding Performer award-winning a total of 12 gold medals during her career. Trombini garnered induction into the F&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
Krystle Satrum '04 – Women's Swimming
Satrum collected six All-America accolades during her career, is the F&M and CC record holder in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.85), and also holds the Diplomats' top time in the 100-yard Backstroke (56.94). She won gold in both events throughout her four-year career at the CC Championships and was inducted in the F&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Jenna Walters '07 – Women's Swimming
Walters was a nine-time All-American during her tenure with the Diplomats. She still holds a pair of F&M program records in the 100- and 200-yard Freestyle with times of 52.4 and 1:51.8, respectively. Walters earned a pair of CC Outstanding Performer honors at Championship meets and won the 50-yard Freestyle each of her four years at the competition.
Kelly Landman '07 – Women's Swimming
Landman earned four All-America honors in her career, including two at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Her career-best time of 2:04.3 in the 200-yard Butterfly is an F&M record, while she remains in the program top-10 in five additional events.
Brittany McCabe '09 – Women's Swimming
A two-time All-American, McCabe was dominant in the 100-yard Backstroke at CC Championship meets, winning the event in each of the four years she competed. Her career-best time of 58.54 in the event remains the F&M record, while she places in the program's top-10 in three additional events.
Katie Grant '15 – Women's Swimming
Grant is the program's most-recent multiple All-American, winning accolades in the 500- and 1,650-yard Freestyle events at the 2013 NCAA Championship. She was a member of three relay teams (200-, 400-, and 800-yard Freestyle Relay) that hold F&M records and is in the program's top-five in four individual events. Grant won seven CC gold medals in her career and placed first in the 1,650-Free all four years at the Championship meet.
