Lankler, Budd Nab Top Honors at Annual Luncheon

LANCASTER, Pa. – Vanessa Budd of the women's lacrosse team and Brad Lankler of the men's golf team were presented with the highest honors given to Franklin & Marshall senior athletes at the annual awards luncheon on Monday in the Mayser Center. Budd won the Karvasales Outstanding Senior Athlete Award while Lankler was honored with the Garrigues Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. The Garrigues and Karvasales awards are given to the male and female senior athletes that display cumulative outstanding athletic and academic achievements over a four-year period.

Each of the spring sports these two student-athletes compete for are playoff bound, so both Budd and Lankler are expected to continue adding postseason accolades and record-breaking accomplishments to their already impressive resumes. 

Budd (Darien, Conn. / Darien) is a two-time First Team All-American, a two-time First Team All-Metro Region selection and was twice named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) First Team. She was named the CC Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and prior to the start of her senior season, Budd was the only DIII player to earn a spot on the Tewaaraton Watch List, one of the highest athletic honors for women's lacrosse. 

Lankler (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) is a two-time All-American and a two-time All-Region selection. Over the weekend at the CC Championship, Lankler tied for second with a 222 after firing rounds of 72-74-74, finishing just three strokes behind first place, and earning All-Conference recognition for the third time. Career highlights include a CC Individual Championship as a freshman, a sixth-place finish at the NCAA National Championship last season and placing in the top-five of more than half of the events he competed in throughout his career as the No. 1 golfer on the team, including four medalist honors. 

Both Jenn Silverman (Newark, Del. / Charter School of Wilmington) of the field hockey team and Sarah Haddon (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) of the women's basketball team, as well as Josh Young (Bethlehem, Pa. / Freedom) of the football and wrestling teams garnered the Student-Athletic Leadership Committee (SALC) Sportsmanship Award. The Sportsmanship Award is bestowed upon a male and female athlete who has demonstrated consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in his/her daily participation in intercollegiate athletics. He/she must also have demonstrated good citizenship outside of an athletic competition setting and be in good academic standing.

Jillian Albus (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) of the women's swimming team and Matt Regueiro (Sewickley, Pa. / Quaker Valley) of the men's soccer team were honored with the Delphic Student-Athlete Award. The award is given to the male and female senior athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the fall semester. He/she must have achieved the highest level of excellence in athletics, community service, and academics.  In accordance with the College's Delphic Student-Athlete Honor Society, the recipients must also embody the ideals of mind, body, and spirit.
