Franklin & Marshall Director of Athletics, Patricia S.W. Epps announced the promotion of Brad Weltmer as the Diplomats’ Associate Director of Athletic Communications for the 2019-20 academic year.
In his current position, Weltmer handles the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Communications Department and functions as the primary contact for men’s soccer, women's soccer, the men’s and women’s squash teams and F&M’s Division I wrestling program, as well as baseball, women’s tennis, women’s golf and the men’s and women’s rowing programs. He serves as an advisor to the athletic department’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council (F&M’s version of the NCAA-mandated SAAC). His role involves assisting the group with their annual senior awards ceremony while offering guidance and providing mentorship throughout the year on publicizing their many initiatives.
In addition to fulfilling the day-to-day needs of the athletic communications office, Weltmer is responsible for hiring, training and supervising a staff of more than 20 student workers to assist in the game-day broadcast and office operations of the department.
Weltmer has raised F&M athletics’ presence on both social media and through the growth of the department’s Youtube channel. He was instrumental in starting the @GoDiplomats Instagram account and growing it to more than 2,700 followers in five years as the primary graphic designer and administrator for the page. He has produced hundreds of videos for the GoDiplomats Youtube channel, which has accumulated more than 300,000 views and added nearly 700 subscribers in a seven-year period.
Weltmer previously held the title of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications from 2012-18 and began his career at F&M as the Athletic Communication Assistant, a position he held since August 2012. In his initial role within the department, he served as the primary contact for women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and softball.
Before F&M, Weltmer worked as a Sports Information Intern at Division I Saint Francis University (SFU) during the summer of 2012.
While at Saint Francis, Weltmer developed video content for the Department, updated the SFU Athletics web site and assisted the sports information staff with their day-to-day activities.
Weltmer is a 2011 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a focus on public relations. He received his Master of Science degree in sports management from IUP in 2012.
