CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team rolled past Dickinson by a 3-0 score (25-17, 26-24, 25-10) on Wednesday afternoon in the team's Centennial Conference (CC) opener in Carlisle.
The Diplomats improved to 7-4, 1-0 CC with the victory while the Red Devils dropped to 5-6, 0-2 CC.
In the opening set, F&M got out to a strong start with a 14-6 edge midway through the frame. Dickinson crept back to cut the deficit to five late in the set at 20-15, but a 5-2 Diplomat run brought an end to the threat and was capped off by a Grace Polisano service ace.
The Red Devils took the opening three points of the second before F&M won 16 of the next 21 points to take a decisive eight-point edge. Dickinson fought back and eventually evened the set at 20-20 and eventually pulled ahead by one at 24-23. On set point, the Diplomats rattled off three straight to secure the frame, courtesy of a pair of Delaney Hahn kills and a Dickinson attack error.
F&M led the third by a narrow 6-5 margin before a 9-0 run put the Diplomats ahead for good. The last seven points of the frame all went to F&M, and a kill from Hahn sealed the contest on match point.
Just 14 errors were committed by the Diplomats on the night, which marked the second-lowest output of the season after allowing just 13 in a 3-0 shutout of Penn St.-Altoona on Sept. 9.
Hahn notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, along with teammate Polisano, who recorded 10 kills and 10 digs. Setter Grace Maggiore totaled 29 kills to go along with nine digs and a pair of service aces.
F&M returns to Mayser on Saturday, hosting a tri-match, beginning at 12:00 p.m. against Haverford. The Diplomats close out the day with a non-conference matchup against Moravian at 5:00 p.m.
