LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory against Ursinus Thursday night at the Mayser Center in Centennial Conference (CC) action. With the victory, the Diplomats move past Haverford atop the CC standings at 6-1. F&M evens its overall record 12-12 with the win, while the Bears drop to 7-12, 2-5 CC.
In the first frame the Diplomats came out on fire, winning 10 of the first 12 points in the set and forcing a timeout by Ursinus. F&M jumped ahead 20-7 before the Bears pulled to within six at 23-17. On set-point for the Diplomats, Kerry Rom stepped back to serve and fired an ace to seal the 25-17 victory.
Ursinus kept the second set close at 5-5 before a 13-5 run by F&M put the Diplomats up 18-10. The eight-point advantage was enough for F&M as the Diplomats cruised to a 25-16 victory to go up 2-0 on the Bears.
In the third, Ursinus battled F&M all set as both squads traded the lead throughout. Tied 18-18 late in the frame, a costly service error by the Bears gave the Diplomats a one-point advantage. F&M held onto the lead for the rest of the third set, pulling away with a 25-20 score to take the match 3-0.
The sweep was the Diplomats second in a row and sixth of the season.
