Diplomats Sweep Mules

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall volleyball dominated Muhlenberg on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory in Centennial Conference (CC) action at the Mayser Center.  The Diplomats move into sole position of first place in the CC with a 5-1 record.  F&M improves to 11-12 on the season, while the Mules fall to 12-7, 3-3 CC.

The Diplomats started out the first set strong, winning four of the first five points in the frame.  F&M's lead quickly dwindled, as Muhlenberg came back to tie the set 4-4.  Both squads traded points to tie the match 6-6.  From there, F&M went on a 6-1 run to pull ahead 12-7.  The Diplomats never relinquished the lead, taking the first set 25-17.

In the second, F&M jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Mules fought back to tie the match 5-5.  A Kerry Rom kill gave the Diplomats the 6-5 advantage and triggered a 5-1 run for F&M.  Down 11-6, Muhlenberg once again fought back to tie the match, 12-12, before a Sydney Seydel kill gave the Diplomats a 13-12 advantage.  F&M held the lead for the rest of the match, winning the second set 25-20 on a return error by the Mules.

Up 2-0, the Diplomats traded points with Muhlenberg in the third frame to tie the set 3-3.  Candice Tussing stepped behind the line to serve and took over the match, landing three aces in a row.  F&M pulled ahead 9-3 with Tussing at the serve position, and dominated Muhlenberg en route to a 25-10 victory, to take the match 3-0.

Julie Harvey led the offense with 12 kills, while Caroline Hubbard chipped in 28 assists.  Alyssa Sanchez paced the defense with seven digs.

The Dipolmats recorded 12 aces as a team, led by Tussing who registered five.

F&M returns to the court tomorrow to face off against Ursinus in CC action.  The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
