Diplomats Drop Pair at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md.—Franklin & Marshall dropped a pair of matches in the first day of the Salisbury Tournament on Saturday.  In the opener, the Diplomats fell to the host Seagulls 3-2 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Richard Stockton in the nightcap.

In the first match against Salisbury, the Seagulls took the opening set by a 25-16 margin.  The Diplomats (11-10) came back to take a 2-1 lead on the strength of 26-24 and 25-21 wins in the next two sets.  However, Salisbury would take the fourth set 25-22, and hold on for an 18-16 win in the final set.

Julie Harvey continued her run of strong play, leading the Diplomats offense with 17 kills, a .304 hitting percentage, and six digs.  Jessica Poucel and Sydney Seydel added 10 kills apiece.  Defensively, Katy May recorded 13 digs, and Caroline Hubbard added another 10.  Hubbard also notched 46 assists in tallying her third straight double-double, and fifth of the season.

In the second match, Richard Stockton swept the Diplomats by scores of 25-15, 27-25, and 25-20.  Harvey and Seydel once again led the way with 10 kills each.  Candice Tussing notched nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage.  Defensively, May led the team with 16 digs.

F&M continues play in Salisbury tomorrow.  The Diplomats will take on Oneonta State at 9:30 a.m., before facing an opponent to be determined at 11:30 a.m.
