LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Alyssa Ward and Rachel Wylie were recognized by the Centennial Conference (CC) for their outstanding performances at the Conference Championships from May 5-7. Ward was named Field Performer of the Year, while Wylie earned Rookie Performer of the Year honors.
Ward won all three jumping events and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay team to finish the Championships with four gold medals. In addition to winning the triple jump and long jump, her effort of 5.61 meters (18'-5") in the long jump broke the school record by 10.25 inches. In the process, she became the second consecutive Diplomat to earn Outstanding Field Performer honors after Rebecca Swisher also garnered the recognition in 2016.
Wylie finished off her first appearance at the CC Outdoor Championships with two gold medals and one bronze. The freshman broke her own school record on Saturday in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.00, only to again shatter the mark in Sunday's finals with a gold-medal time of 1:02.22. She followed up that performance by joining Ward, Aleksandra Kiszka, and Kaitlin Muccio to win the 4x100 on Sunday with a time of 49.98. She rounded out competition in the 4x400-meter relay, teaming up with Kiszka, Muccio, and Chelsea Frantz to take third.
The Diplomats totaled 68 points over the course of the meet to finish sixth in the team standings.
