Methodist Topples F&M in Season Opener

FREDRICKSBURG, Va. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2018 schedule on Saturday with a hard-fought 8-1 loss against Methodist at the University of Mary Washington Invitational.

The Diplomats fell to 0-1 with the defeat while the Monarchs, who are ranked at No. 10 in the Atlantic South, improved to 2-0. 

By the Numbers 

Methodist secured two of three doubles wins to head into singles with a 2-1 edge. F&M's lone win came from the No. 1 duo of Sarah Haas and Allison Wolters, who earned a 9-7 victory. 

Four of the six singles spots were secured by the Monarchs in straight sets. Haas (No. 2) earned a win in her opening frame by a 6-4 score but was upended in the next two. 

Emma Wu delivered a strong performance at No. 4, winning the first set by a 6-2 score and forcing the tiebreaker in the second. However, Wu fell by a 10-8 score in the super tiebreaker.
