LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team celebrated senior day on Friday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The match was played to decision and secured the Diplomats the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye heading into next week's conference championships.
F&M improved to 13-5, 8-2 CC and earned an automatic bid into the CC Semifinals on Saturday, which it will host at the Brooks Tennis Center. The Owls dropped to 8-15, 2-8 CC on the year.
The 13th win on the season is the most for the Diplomats since winning 15 back in 1998.
F&M cruised in doubles play as Caitlin Rummelsburg and senior Anya Sahaydachny led the way at No. 1 with an 8-3 win. Nicole Russo and Megan FitzMaurice put together an 8-0 shutout at No. 2, while senior's Marissa Rohner and Naomi Smith captured an 8-6 victory at No. 3.
Singles play went largely unfinished as the match was played to decision. Sahaydachny earned the straight-set victory at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 win, followed by a pair of shutouts from Tara Buchny at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0). Allysan Breece picked up the Diplomats third win after taking down Bryn Mawr's Molly MacDougall with a 6-0, 6-2 mark.
