LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall suffered a 7-2 setback at Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Saturday morning, before returning home and falling 9-0 to Salisbury in non-conference play. The Diplomats drop to 3-6 with the pair of defeats.
Against the Fords, Emily Gruenberg and Julia Fiala claimed a shutout 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles over Kate Donches and Rachal Tong, while Gruenberg notched the lone singles win for F&M with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Fiala and Meredith Lackey came up just short in their respective singles matches against the Fords. Fiala was edged in a straight-set matchup against Robyn Himelstein that stretched to two tiebreakers, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (8), while Lackey dropped a hard-fought three-setter, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8), to Donches.
In their second contest of the day against Salisbury, the Diplomats were blanked 9-0 but had several competitive matches. Gruenberg was edged in three sets by Roxanne Alban, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9), and fell 8-6 at No. 3 doubles with Fiala.
F&M returns to the court on Tuesday at home against McDaniel at 4:00 p.m.
