Diplomats Edged by Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall was edged by Muhlenberg 5-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Thursday. The Diplomats (3-6, 0-3 CC) led 2-1 after doubles, but the Mules (2-4, 2-2 CC) took four of the six singles spots to secure the win.

F&M captured doubles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to take the early 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. At No. 1, Danielle Weiner and Anya Sahaydachny rolled past Nina Sanders and Emily Szulman, 8-2. Julia Fiala and Nina Simic defeated Sharen Resnikoff and Amanda von Taube at No. 3, 8-5.

Fiala and Simic were the first to finish their singles matches with straight set wins to push F&M out to a 4-1 lead. Fiala cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Gabriela Contino at No .5, while Simic downed von Taube at No. 6, 6-1, 7-5.

The Mules then rallied with four consecutive victories at the first four singles spots to nab the victory. Sahaydachny (No. 2) and Dana Sleeper (No. 4) each captured the first sets in their respective matches, but were outlasted in three sets. Sahaydachny fell to Emily Szulman 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, and Sleeper dropped a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 decision to Resnikoff.

F&M returns home on Saturday to host CC foe Haverford at 11:00 am.
