LANCASTER, Pa. – A fifth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay powered Franklin & Marshall women's swimming into fourth place after the first session of the F&M Invitational on Friday night. The Diplomats earned 165 points in the session, while Delaware tallied 282 to lead all teams.
The 400-yard medley relay was the final event of the night, but F&M saved its best for last as Anna Hess, Melissa Mullin, Grace Pereles, and Katherine Hirsch teamed up for a time of 4:00.96 and fifth place. Washington & Lee took first in 3:48.19.
A solid performance in the session's other relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay, saw the Diplomats take 11th in 1:41.47. Erin Fago and Samantha Hershey joined Hess and Hirsch in the event, collecting 32 points for F&M.
Caroline Fry led the Diplomat attack in the lone individual event of the night, the 1650-yard freestyle. The freshman clocked a time of 18:08.88 to take seventh, while Rebecca McCain took 13th in 18:46.70. Delaware's Sarah Braatz took the victory in 17:22.24.
F&M is back in the pool tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for prelims of the 50-yard freestyle, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the finals of the 200-yard medley relay.
