Bullets Shoot Down F&M’s Title Hopes
Team Championship: Gettysburg | Outstanding Performer: Rachel Glaser, Washington
LANCASTER, Pa. - Gettysburg entered Sunday's portion of the Centennial Conference Championships with a 33.5 point lead on Franklin & Marshall. The Bullets managed to fend off the upstart Diplomats to capture their 12th conference championship.
The Bullets put F&M away for good with a strong showing in the 100-yard freestyle. Gettysburg had four entries in the championship final blew open a lead that proved insurmountable. The Diplomats got within 14.5 points heading into the final event of the championship, but Gettysburg won both the final and the consolation final to finish up with 750.5 points to F&M's 726. Swarthmore took third place with 508 points while Washington took fourth with 468. The fourth place Shorewomen produced the meet's outstanding performer in Rachel Glaser.
Brittany McCabe continued her strong meet with an NCAA B-Cut performance in winning the 200-yard backstroke. McCabe, who posted an automatic qualifier in the 100-yard backstroke last night, hammered out Sunday's distance in 2:05.90, giving her five seconds on the field
F&M first-year, Olivia Hill, started the night earning silver in the 1650-yard freestyle where she posted a 17:54.19. Hill's classmates, Samantha Sweeney and Katherine DeCrosta took silver and bronze in the 200-yard breaststroke with respective times of 2:30.32 and 2:30.69. Sweeney's time was .03 seconds off of the championship mark set by Swarthmore's Stephanie Su.
DeCrosta and McCabe swam to silver in the final event, the 400-yard free relay. They were joined by Jennie Payne and Meghan Karanian in logging a 3:36.71.
