AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 13 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team fell in a narrow 5-4 loss to No. 16 Hamilton on Friday evening in the opening day of the Amherst Round Robin. The defeat drops the Diplomats' record to 2-5 on the year, while the Continentals improved to 6-3.
Emily Caldwell was solid at No. 1 with a three-game sweep (11-6, 11-6, 11-4) against Hilary Gray. Dulakshi Elikewela followed at No. 2 by battling in a marathon match but ultimately came up short at 7-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-2. Roxanna Mead earned F&M's second sweep of the day at No. 3 with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 decision.
Cris Margaret Frias Gonzalez (No. 4) and Katherine Perry (No. 5) both fought hard in their respective matches but each fell short in four games. Kate O'Brien earned a victory at No. 7 after outlasting Hamilton's Hillary Kolodner with an 11-4, 5-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9 score. Dana Rapisarda picked up the Diplomats other victory on the day with a three-game sweep that included a grueling 18-16 win in the second set.
F&M continues at day two of the Amherst Round Robin tomorrow with matches against Columbia at 9:00 a.m. and Wesleyan (Conn.) at 5:00 p.m.
