Squash Headed to Pioneer Valley Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Franklin & Marshall's men's and women's squash teams will hit the road towards Western Massachusetts this weekend for the annual Pioneer Valley Invitational hosted by Smith, Mount Holyoke and Amherst. The invitational will feature forty-four total matches, with seven women's teams and eight men's teams competing.

The eighth-ranked Diplomat men (5-4), who held off No. 9 Penn 5-4 for a crucial win on Thursday night, will take on three opponents this weekend. F&M will open play against No. 27 Tufts on Saturday at 11:00 am, before facing off against No. 21 Connecticut College at 2:00 pm. The Diplomats will then wrap up their weekend with a matchup opposite No. 19 Wesleyan (Conn.) on Sunday at noon.

At last year's Pioneer Valley Invitational, the F&M men came away with a solid 3-1 showing. The Diplomats blanked Amherst, Wesleyan and Bates by identical 9-0 scores, but fell to Dartmouth, 9-0, to close out play.

F&M's women (3-7), ranked 17th, will take to the court five times this weekend. On Saturday, the Diplomats take on No. 25 Smith (9:00 am), No. 24 Vassar (4:00 pm) and No. 21 Tufts (7:00 pm). F&M will then meet No. 20 Wesleyan and No. 26 Wellesley on Sunday at 9:00 am and 10:30 am, respectively.

The Diplomats posted a 1-3 mark at last year's event, falling to a trio of top-15 opponents in Amherst, Bates and Dartmouth, but grabbed a 6-3 victory over Wesleyan.

Results and recaps will be posted throughout the weekend as they become available. Check back to GoDiplomats.com for F&M squash updates.
