LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team, in conjunction with the Centennial Conference (CC), American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), will participate in the StrikeOut Cancer initiative when it hosts Haverford on Saturday.
Started over 10 years ago, StrikeOut Cancer is a weeklong event that unites the American Cancer Society and the NFCA in an effort to raise funds and awareness to support cancer research.
The Diplomats have sold hundreds of ribbons, some with personal messages, which will be hanging from the outfield fence for Saturday's contests. Additional funds have been raised through F&M's donation page found here, with contributions still being accepted.
Nine immediate family members of the Franklin & Marshall softball team and coaching staff have been impacted by cancer. Ceremonial first pitches will be thrown before the opening game to honor those individuals. To show support, the Diplomats will be wearing pink jerseys and socks for the afternoon.
