READING, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall’s softball team split Tuesday’s double-header at Penn State-Berks. Both games were shortened by the mercy rule with Berks nabbing the opener 12-4. The Diplomats (12-6) rallied for a 10-1 win in the nightcap.
With the help of Barbara Sassos’s work at the plate, F&M gashed open a seven run lead through three innings in the second game. The Diplomats’ leftfielder doubled to plate Lauren Incorvaia for the first run of F&M’s five-run second inning. Sasso went yard in the third while Kristina Fietkiewicz was standing on first.
Sasso’s two-run shot was her fourth of the season and second in the last three. She finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Alyssa Yackle also went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored.
Meredith Morgan allowed a single run on three hits while fanning seven batters. She improved to 5-1 on the year, lowering her ERA to 1.25.
The Nittany Lions (3-11) posted 11 runs over the first two innings in the opener. Lauren Incorvaia went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday against Muhlenberg.
