Ursinus Edges Franklin & Marshall 2-1 OT in Women's Soccer

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Chelsea Morin finished a pass from Amanda Leatherman 7:12 into overtime as the Ursinus College Bears knocked off Franklin & Marshall College 2-1 in Centennial Conference women's soccer.

Following a scoreless first half, Ursinus (11-2-1, 5-1-1 Centennial Conference) jumped on the scoreboard first as Leatherman tallied an unassisted goal at 62:08 to put the Bears in front. Franklin & Marshall (9-4-1, 4-4 Centennial Conference) countered at 74:23 as Julie Flemming (Sr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) threaded a pass to Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/Hill) who buried a point blank shot to knot the score at 1-1.

The two teams then played 22:49 of scoreless soccer before Morin netted the game-winner on a point blank shot from the middle of the box for the 2-1 final.

In goal, Ashley Potter made three saves on eight F&M shots to earn the win, while Robyn Jones (Jr., Titusville, PA/Pennington) made eight saves on 16 Ursinus shots in the loss.

The loss continues a playoff race for the Diplomats as Franklin & Marshall is three points behind Ursinus and two points ahead of McDaniel College (6-8-1, 3-4-1 CC) for the fifth position in the Centennial Conference standings. The CC playoffs are set up that the top five teams earn spots in the playoffs.

The Diplomats hold a tie-breaker with McDaniel as Franklin & Marshall defeated the Green Terror 2-1 in overtime on October 1, while the Bears now hold the tie breaker with Franklin & Marshall.

Overall, Ursinus has the toughest road to the playoffs as the Bears must still face McDaniel, third place Haverford (12-2-1, 5-1-1 CC) and eighth place Muhlenberg (3-8-2, 2-5-1 CC), while F&M will square off with 11th place Bryn Mawr (4-10, 0-7 CC) and second place Johns Hopkins (13-2-1, 6-1-1 CC) over the last two weeks of the season.

Further, McDaniel will meet Hopkins, Ursinus and 10th place Washington (2-9-1, 0-6-1 CC) down the stretch.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on October 23 versus Bryn Mawr at Baker Field. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
