Summers & Cassels Lead Franklin & Marshall Past Washington 3-1 in Women's Soccer

LANCASTER, PA - Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) scored twice and Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/Hill) scored a goal and added an assist as the Franklin & Marshall College women's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference competition at Baker Field.

The Diplomats (9-2-1, 4-2 Centennial Conference) jumped on the scoreboard two minutes into the game as Summers left a pass for Cassels who buried a shot past Shorewomen goalie Amanda Frushour for a 1-0 lead. Washington (1-9-1, 0-6-1 Centennial Conference) knotted the game at 1-1 prior to halftime as Stephanie Bradley collected a rebound off a shot and connected with Colleen McLoughlin for a goal at 19:42.

Following 13 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Summers broke the tie as she finished a shot off a cross from Amy Cawley (Fr., Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) for the game winning goal and a 2-1 lead at the 58:398 mark.

Cassels added to the margin with 9:04 left on the game clock as Athena Manolakos (So., Wilmington, DE/Tatnall) recorded an assist as the Diplomats improved to 8-0 all-time against Washington in women's soccer.

In goal, Robyn Jones (Jr., Titusville, PA/Pennington) made four saves to lower her goals against average to 0.57 per contest with a .893 save percentage on the year.

For Washington, Frushour finished with nine saves to take the loss

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season at Gettysburg College on October 18. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
