LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall Diplomats scored five minutes into the game and dominated play the rest of the way holding off a two shot rally by McDaniel in the final minutes earning a 1-0 win in Centennial Conference play.
The win improves the Diplomats record to 6-2-1 and earns Coach Steve O'Day's team its first Conference victory after dropping its previous two Centennial matches. "It feels great to be back in the Conference race," stated O'Day. McDaniel's record falls to 3-6-1, 2-2.
Amy Cawley put the Diplomats on the scoreboard at 5:02 into the game with a rocket past McDaniel goal keeper Michelle Mullen finding the top left corner of the net. The Diplomats outshot the Green Terror 18-3 with Mullen turning away numerous opportunities by F&M. She ended the game with 11 saves.
Two of F&M's Robyn Jones three saves came in the final minutes of the game holding onto the shutout for the Diplomats in dramatic fashion.
The Diplomats return to action next Wednesday, October 4 against Dickinson College in Lancaster, PA. Game time is 4:30 pm.
