Swarthmore Stuns Franklin & Marshall 1-0 OT in Women's Soccer

LANCASTER, PA -- Swarthmore College used a goal by Lauren Kett at the 94:34 mark for the game's only score as the Garnet upset Franklin & Marshall College 1-0 OT in both teams Centennial Conference season-opening game.

In a contest postponed from September 18 due to heavy rain from Hurricane Ivan, the Diplomats poured on the shots and scoring opportunities throughout regulation as Franklin & Marshall out shot Swarthmore 13-3 during the first ninety minutes of play.

However, the Garnet found the back of the net 4:34 into overtime as Sarah Hobbs dished an assist to Lauren Kett who buried a line-drive shot just inside the left goal post for the game winner.

In goal, Melissa Ruff (Sr., East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded two saves while Swarthmore's Kristin Traband made 12 saves to earn the victory.

Franklin & Marshall (3-2, 0-1 Centennial Conference) will return to action on September 21 at home versus Susquehanna University in non-conference action. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
