LANCASTER, PA -- Amanda Zambrano (Jr., Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) scored with 6:01 left on the clock in the first half for the deciding score as the Franklin & Marshall College women's soccer team defeated Elizabethtown 2-1 in non-conference action.
The two teams battled through 33:25 of scoreless soccer in the first half before the Diplomats jumped on the boards as Emily Knapp (Sr., Ellicott City, MD/Notre Dame Prep) converted on a cross from Sarah Evans (So., Brookeville, MD/Westtown) for a 1-0 lead. The margin grew to 2-0 prior to halftime as Zambrano connected on an assist from Sarah George (Fr., Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) at the 38:59 mark.
The goal marked the sixth of the year in three games as she moved past Allison Hurley '02 for sole possession of ninth place on the career goals list as Zambrano now has 28 goals and five assists for 61 points in her career.
Elizabethtown attempted to make a second half comeback as Lindsay Brown scored an unassisted goal with 22:25 left in the half, but the Diplomats' defense stiffened and held on for the one goal victory.
In net for the Diplomats, Melissa Ruff (Sr., East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) made seven saves on nine shots on goals, while Elizabethtown's Dawn Mellen stopped six of F&M's eight shots.
Franklin & Marshall (3-0, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on September 15 at York College of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
