The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team was 39 seconds away from facing its second straight overtime game, but Danielle David buried a shot in the 89th minute to lift the Diplomats (2-0-1) over Lebanon Valley 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
Shannon Summers collected the Flying Dutchwomen's (0-2) goal kick in the midfield and sent a through ball to David, who took one touch toward the goal and sent the ball into the far-right corner for game winner to avoid overtime.
Erin McGarvey gave Lebanon Valley its best opportunity to get on the board when she fired a shot in the 68th minute, but netminder Erin Roy made the diving stop.
Roy ended with four saves on the night for her second shutout of the season, while Erika Ely made the same amount of stops for the Flying Dutchwomen.
F&M held a 9-4 shot advantage and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday against Alvernia. Game time is 12 p.m.
