LANCASTER, PA -- Forward Amanda Zambrano (Jr., Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) scored five goals in two games to earn Most Valuable Player honors at the 2004 Law Firm of Gray, Patterson, Cody & Taylor Women's Soccer Tournament hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.
Following a pair of scores in a 3-0 victory over Wilkes College on September 3 in the tournament's opening game, she added a natural hat-trick in less than four minutes in the first half of a 4-1 victory over Goucher to lead the Diplomats to the tournament title.
In addition, the scores raised her career total to 27 goals in less than three seasons as she surpassed Andrea Cianfrani '98 and 1990 All-America selection Annemarie Merow '91 to move into a tie with Allison Hurley '02 for ninth on the career goals list at the College. Further, she eclipsed Kristin Purcell '92 (23 goals-seven assists-53 points) to move into sole possession of 12th place in career points as Zambrano now has 27 goals and five assists for 59 points in her career.
Franklin & Marshall (2-0, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on September 9 versus Elizabethtown College at F&M's Baker Campus. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
