Eastern Mennonite advances in Women's Soccer Tourney
Aug. 31, 2007
LANCASTER, Pa. - Katie Lamm's breakaway goal in the second minute of the second half held up as the game-winner as Eastern Mennonite (1-0) squeaked past Rutgers-Camden (0-1) in the first game of the 2007 Franklin & Marshall Women's Soccer Kickoff Tournament. The win makes Eastern Mennonite the first team to pick up a win and a shutout on the turf of F&M's new North Campus Athletic Field.
Rutgers-Camden out-shot the Royals 7-6, but Lamm was the only player to cash in on an offensive opportunity. She broke free from a crowd just below the circle and put the winning shot to the right of the Rapotrs' keeper, Kristen Cargen, who came to the top of the box to challenge. Cargen, and Eastern Mennonite's Abigale Diffenbach each recorded four saves for their respective teams.
With the win, Eastern Mennonite will face the winner of this evening's Franklin & Marshall / Delaware Valley match-up. The championship game is set for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, following the 3:00 p.m. consolation game.
