LANCASTER, Pa. – Kate Kerr's first-half goal proved to be all the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team needed in a 1-0 shutout of Dickinson on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field.
The contest served as the Diplomats' season-finale, giving F&M its highest win total since 2010, with a 7-9-1, 2-6-1 Centennial Conference (CC) overall record while the Red Devils dropped to 7-6-4, 2-5-2 CC.
In the 32nd minute, Mischianti set up for a corner and curved an opportunity to the near post. Kerr managed to get a head on the ball and aimed her shot to the lower left of the net for the 1-0 edge. The score was Kerr's third of the season.
The Diplomats entered halftime with an 8-6 edge in shots and an 8-7 advantage in corners.
After the break, Dickinson immediately began to threaten and nearly knotted the score in the 60th minute. A Red Devil corner opportunity bounced off an F&M player in the box and appeared destined for the back of the net, but defender Nicolette Runk was there to turn away the attempt with a header that sent the ball wide of the goal.
Dickinson peppered Diplomat goalkeeper Nicole Savidge (6-7-1) with shots throughout the second frame but was unable to hit paydirt despite outshooting the Diplomats by a 14-4 margin in the final 45 minutes of play.
Overall, shots belonged to the Red Devils at 20-12 and corners at 12-9. Reanna Leoni and Kerr led the offense with four shots each.
Savidge registered her seventh shutout of the season with seven saves on the day. Amanda Masterson (4-1) was dealt the loss for Dickinson after allowing one goal and picking up three saves before being relieved at halftime.
