Diplomats Battle Mules to a Draw

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team battled Muhlenberg to a hard-fought 0-0 2OT draw on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) competition.

The Diplomats moved to 5-8-1, 0-5-1 CC on the year while the Mules now sit at 4-5-3, 1-2-3 CC.

Neither team gained much of an edge in the opening 45 minutes of action with shots favoring Muhlenberg by a 3-2 margin, but both of the Mules attempts came on goal in the last 15 minutes of the frame.

The Diplomats' offense came out firing after the break and challenged the Muhlenberg goalkeeper with a pair of shots on net in the opening six minutes but were unable to light the scoreboard. Forward Reanna Leoni had a chance in the closing minutes but sent a shot wide left in the 86th as the teams entered overtime.

Both scoring chances in the opening overtime stanza belonged to F&M, including a 94th minute attempt from Sabrina Graziano that was turned back by a defender.

Muhlenberg tallied a pair of shots in the opening five minutes of the second overtime frame but sent both attempts wide. With time winding down, Kate Kerr looked to notch the late game-winner but Mules' goalkeeper Marissa D'Alessandro was there for the clutch stop.

Savidge registered five saves through 110 minutes of action to earn her fifth shutout of the season while D'Alessandro (3-3-3) stopped the four shots she faced as well.

Overall, shots belonged to F&M at 10-9 but the Mules led corners at 5-1. Leoni paced the offense with four shots, followed by Kate Kerr with three.

CC action continues for the Diplomats on Saturday when F&M travels to Washington for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
