Diplomats Tame Gators

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall got their first win of 2009 defeating Allegheny 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon. F&M's (1-1) Shelby Cummins knocked in a Jenny Jones cross from the top right of the box at the 31 minute mark for the lone goal.

The Gators (2-1) had two chances late in the game but were unable to score. The first happened with under 1:40, when Abby Silvester's wide-open look sailed wide of the net. Allegheny's second chance happened with just under 30 seconds as the Gators had a two on one situation, but were called for offsides.

Diplomats' freshmen keeper Katie Golding picked up her first career win. Golding stopped nine shots collecting the shutout. The Gator's Emily Karr was saddled with her first loss of the season.

F&M was out shot by the Gators 16-4 and took two corners to Allegheny's three.

The Diplomats return to action September 9 when they host Alvernia for 7:00pm game.
