WESTMINISTER, Md. -- No. 9 Franklin & Marshall defeated McDaniel 19-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 10-4, 4-1 CC while McDaniel fell to 4-8, 0-5 CC.
McDaniel led 2-1 early in the game before the Diplomats netted nine straight to take the lead for good. Paige Moriarty put the first point on the board off a feed from Gabby Frank, before returning the favor with an assist to Frank at 26:35 to start the run. Moriarty and Maddie Hughes struck a minute apart to make it 4-2 and Frank found Siobhan Burke at 22:48.
Moriarty picked up her third and Caroline Kolva scored before assisting Burke at 10:08 to put the Diplomats up 8-2. Vanessa Budd added a goal before Grace Norley made it 10-2. McDaniel netted two and Hannah Serling found the back of the net with under a minute to play to give F&M an 11-4 lead at the break.
Moriarty and Frank connected at 28:38 early in the second and the Green Terror came within seven, 12-5. F&M answered with six straight and went up 18-5 with 6:01 left to play. Moriarty had two in the run while Norley, Hughes, Kolva and Baker all struck once. After a goal from McDaniel made it 18-6, Clare Monaghan put the last point on the board for F&M.
Moriarty led the offense with five goals and two assists and Frank ended with two goals and two helpers. Taylor Freud had two caused turnovers and Budd came away with five draws.
Julia Nelson picked up the win with five stops, two caused turnovers and three grounds to improve to 1-0 while Nikki Francis took the loss with three stops.
F&M held a 30-18 edge in shots and went 12-for-14 on clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when travels to Washington for a 3:00 p.m. game.
