LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall is set to host King's on Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament at 5:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $5 for adults and $3 for students with ID's, senior citizens and children.
Series History: Wednesday's meeting between F&M (14-4) and King's (13-6) is one of eight first-round contests to be played in the 24-team NCAA Tournament. The meeting will be the first between the Monarchs and the Diplomats.
Tournament History: The tournament appearance marks the third bid in a row and the ninth overall berth for the Diplomats. A victory over King's will send F&M to a third consecutive Sweet 16.
The appearance is the third in program history for King's, with the Monarchs previously earning bids in 2006 and 2007, exiting in the first round on both occasions.
How They Got Here: F&M earned an at-large bid after falling to Ursinus 2-1 in a thrilling 2OT Centennial Conference (CC) Championship game on Sunday. King's entered via an automatic bid after defeating FDU-Florham 1-0 on Saturday to win the MAC Freedom Conference Championship.
Tournament Outlook: The winner advances to a four-team regional, hosted by Babson, to face off against TCNJ (16-3) on Saturday. Babson (19-2) is set to host the other Sweet 16 matchup, taking on the winner of St. John Fisher (18-2) and Rhodes (15-2).
