Series History: Franklin & Marshall takes on Alvernia Wednesday, marking the Diplomats' first home contest of the season.  The Crusaders are winless against the Diplomats in seven contests; with F&M's last win occurring in a 2-0 shutout on Sept. 4 of last season.

Against Mary Washington, the Diplomats trail the all-time a series at 8-3, with the Eagles coming away victorious in each of the last two meetings. F&M's last win in the series occurred on Sept. 18, 2005 with a 4-1 victory. The week wraps up for the Diplomats on Saturday for the program's first-ever contest against St. Mary's (Md.), which is being host by Mary Washington.

Last Week: No. 8 F&M opened up its 2014 campaign with a 1-0 shutout of Elizabethtown on Friday evening in non-conference action. The win gave the Diplomats a 1-0 record on the year, while the Blue Jays fell to 0-1.

In the second half, the Diplomats came out firing. Just two minutes into the frame, Juliet Dalton made her way on goal from the left side and fed Sydney Cole in the circle, who tipped the ball into the back of the cage to hand the Diplomats a 1-0 lead.

For the game, F&M outshot its opposition by a 16-4 mark, while also holding a 13-6 edge on corners. Nine of the Diplomats' shots reached goal as the defense played stellar, allowing only one shot to make its way to goalkeeper Allie Morey (1-0). Jones (1-0) took the loss after turning back nine shots on the evening, including six in the second half.

Maria Guarisco led the offense with six shots, while Lauren Eastman and Mary Kate Meedzan registered three apiece.

In the Rankings: The Diplomats remain at No. 8 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Preseason Poll. Bowdoin remains in the No. 1 spot, while Ursinus is the only other Centennial Conference (CC) institution to make the list, ranked at No. 13. To view the complete top-20, click here

Strong Out of the Gate: F&M's shutout against Elizabethtown marked the first time since 2002 the Diplomats blanked their opponent in a season-opening contest. The win also marked F&M's fourth victory in its previous five openers.
