Varsity 8 Boat Downs No. 12 Hamilton, Union

ROME, N.Y. – A pair of Varsity 8 boats claimed first place to sweep two events against nationally-ranked Hamilton and Union on Sunday afternoon in Rome, N.Y. 

Hamilton came into the day at No. 12 in the nation according to the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Collegiate Rowing Poll, with the Diplomats falling just outside of the top-15 after receiving a vote. 

Rankings meant little in the 1 Varsity 8 race when a boat of Kathryn Benedetto (coxswain), Katherine Cousart (8), Allison Hoffmann (7), Sarah Nelson (6), Teresa Chappell (5), Jessica Radlo (4), Erin Smith (3), Jillian Goss-Holmes (2) and Leah Issokson (1) dominated with a time of 6:57.49 to pull off the upset. Hamilton was second at 7:04.57, followed by Union in third (7:14.39). 

The 2 Varsity 8 boat of Bonnie Sullivan (coxswain), Jamie Davidow (8), Caroline Stolfi (7), Rachel Topper (6), Annette Von Jaglinsky (5), Helen Nelson (4), Margaret Stoner (3), Rebecca McCain (2), Anna Berrettini (1) was also impressive finishing first in their event with a time of 7:33.1, ahead of Hamilton (7:34.52) and Union (7:45.92).

F&M returns to the water on Saturday, April 30 at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships in Lewisberry.
