Diplomats Set to Compete at MARC Championships
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's rowing team will compete in the 2013 Middle Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships at Gifford Pinchot State Park this Saturday.
For the first time in conference history, the women's MARC Champion will receive an automatic, full-team bid to the Division III Championships.
The Diplomats have found prior success in the competition, placing third in each of the last two seasons. In 2012, F&M tallied 27 points, finishing behind only nationally-ranked Marietta (No. 7) with 37 points and Washington College (No. 9) with 32 points.
This year's squad is very different than the one from a season ago, with as many as five freshmen having raced in the varsity 8 throughout the year.
"We are a very young squad, but it's also the strongest group we've ever had," said head coach Rob Weber. "They've been competitive in every race we've entered and I'm excited to see them compete this weekend."
In addition to Marietta and Washington College, the MARC consists of Bryn Mawr, North Park University, Richard Stockton, Rutgers-Camden and Mary Washington.
Race time is set for 8:30 a.m. in Lewisberry, Pa.
