CHERRY HILL, NJ. – Franklin & Marshall women's rowing team claimed first at the Murphy Cup held in Cherry Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats picked up the gold in the Collegiate Women Varsity DII/DIII division.
The women's varsity 8+ of Danielle Tunkel-cox, Molly Hack-stroke, Maggie Provencher, Seymone Killins, Allison Ercolano, Katie Winfree, Haley Post, Debra Gladwin, and Tory Trovillion placed second in their heat, just five seconds behind Philadelphia University. F&M earned a spot in the finals with a qualifying time. In the final, the Diplomats outrowed Philadelphia University, beating them by just over sevens seconds with a time of 8:24.20, to claim first place. This is the first time in school history that F&M has defeated the Rams, and the fourth year in a row that the Diplomats have medal in the event.
F&M's second varsity 8+ team of Julia Scavicchio-cox, Jennie Silver, Abby Benkert, Olivia Hill, Emma Cedar, Mackenzie Dix, Jess Bechhofer, Julia Whyte, and Maayan Shalvi competed in the same event, placing fourth overall with a time of 9:35.09.
The Diplomats return to the water Sunday, when F&M competes against conference opponent Mary Washington at Gifford Pinchot State Park. Race time is set for 11:00 am.
