Diplomats Fall to Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Franklin & Marshall could not overcome a 15-3 second-half run from Washington College en route to a 62-48 defeat on Tuesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The loss dropped the Diplomats to 7-13, 4-11 CC while the Shorewomen improved to 10-9, 8-6 CC.

Trailing by as many as 11 points in the opening half, F&M cut the lead to 31-28 in the second when Colleen Bott spun around a defender in the lane before draining a jumper with 15:44 left in the game.

Washington answered with a 15-3 run that included a span of nine unanswered to break the contest wide open and expand its advantage to 15 points at 46-31 with 8:48 to go.

The Diplomats cut into the deficit, eventually bringing the Shorewomen's lead down to nine at 57-48 with 1:06 remaining. However, Washington closed out the game by scoring the final five points on the way to its 14-point victory.

The Shorewomen outrebounded F&M 56-36, including a 24-13 advantage on the offensive glass. The Diplomats shot 33 percent from the floor on the night, while Washington shot slightly better at 36 percent.

Alexa Barbush and Elizabeth Snyder led the way for F&M, recording 14 points apiece. Barbush added five rebounds and three steals, while Snyder chipped in four boards.

Dee Maddox reached double-figures off the bench for the Shorewomen with 12 points, while Ashley Espinosa added 11.

The Diplomats play host to Muhlenberg on Saturday in CC action. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
