Diplomats Downed by Fords

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall could not overcome a late Haverford run, falling to the Fords 55-46 in Centennial Conference (CC) action, Thursday night at the Mayser Center. The loss is the Diplomats second straight, dropping their record to 3-2, 1-2 CC while the Fords improve to 4-1, 3-0 CC.

With the game tied 41-41 late in the second half, Haverford pulled ahead with a 12-0 run to make the score 53-41 with 39 seconds left in the contest.  Elizabeth Snyder drained a 3-pointer on the next possession to pull F&M within nine, however not enough time remained for the Diplomats to make a run.

The contest was tight throughout as Haverford entered halftime with a slim four-point advantage.  F&M captured its first lead of the game in the second when Alexa Barbush hit a pair of free throws to put the Diplomats up 33-31 with 12:03 remaining in the contest.

Haverford scored the next six points to reclaim the lead at 37-33 with 9:57 remaining. The Diplomats fought back, tieing the game at 37-37 off of a Snyder layup with 9:11 left in the game. The Fords grabbed the lead back on the next possession and outscored F&M 18-9 to close out the contest.

Barbush paced the Diplomats' offense with 13 points on 3-for-12 shooting, while Kristina McCarthy chipped in eight of her own. McCarthy pulled down 15 rebounds, nine of which were on the defensive end.

F&M shot a season-low 24.6 percent from the field on the night, while holding the Fords to 32.1 percent shooting. The Diplomats turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 16 points for Haverford.

On Saturday, F&M travels to take on McDaniel in CC competition. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
